When I first started digital scrapbooking pretty much everything I did was monochromatic. Then I thought “how boring” I found everything was looking kind of blah so I began to add contrast and complementary colors to my projects. Now that I have been trying to embrace my inner card marker I began scouring the web for card making ideas. That’s when I ran across a monochromatic card making challenge. Yep, we’re back to monochromatic and PURPLE no less!
To be clear when I first happened upon this blog there was a gorgeous challenge afoot. Shabby Chic, perfection, this is right up my alley. I thought I have got to enter that challenge! Well procrastinator that I am when i went back to get the details the entries for that card making challenge were closed. Frown. Needless to say there were some gorgeous entries. Ok not to worry, I’ll just enter the next challenge. That’s when it hit me. Purple, monochromatic. I thought maybe I’ll just sit this one out. Because I like purple well enough but not in such large dosages.
Card Making Ideas: Just Go Digital
I ran all about looking for purple-y type things to make a card. I found some nice purple papers some dried flowers but wait we were starting to lose the monochromatic theme. Then I remembered an oh so purple digital scrapkit I made entitled Lavender Dreams. Now I know I said I don’t normally do purple but whatever planets aligned at the time I don’t know but I created a monochromatic purple kit! Ok so scrap the traditional card, digital it is.
Digital Scrapbooking Meet Card Making
If you are running out of card making ideas or perhaps card making supplies turn your attention to digital. I gaurantee you’ll never run out of supplies and it’s highly doubtful you’ll run out of ideas. Theme in mind and oh so purple digital scrapkit in hand (virtually in hand that is) I was all set to go. Intimidation gradually turned to inspiration and a set of beautiful cards were born. These cards are 5 x 5 flat and include 3 front styles plus one with text and 2 back styles. Feel free to download them as my gift to you .
Making Monochromatic Magic
To be clear, let me state there is absolutely nothing wrong with monochrome. In fact as you will see demonstrated here when done correctly it can be quite striking. The trick for me when creating these cards was to blend many shades of purple from the darkest to the lightest. I let the shades of purples be their own contrast. The simpler the card the less colors or shades you would need. But when adding a lot of elements to a card or page it’s best not to have everything looking the same.
Card Making Blog Challenge
So here at last are the lovely cards I created for the challenge I’m entering. Did I mention this is the first challenge I ever entered? I’ll be entering two challenges with this purple theme. I added some butterflies for a things with wings and butterflies challenge but sadly by the time I got around to it they were closed. Sigh. Anybody got one of those? A round tuit?
