You love craft projects. You are all about the craft project. Your friends, not so much. No matter the season, the holiday the time of day or night you’ve got some type of craft project going on. You are excited about it. You’ve got to tell someone. But who? Never mind the who. All you need to know is the how.
Let’s face it. Though we may love craft projects and become all aglow when someone mentions their latest project sometimes our friends don’t share our enthusiasm. In fact you may have even noticed an air of boredom when relaying your latest crafty endeavor.
Everyone is not as thrilled about crafting as you are. You know this, of course you do. But that’s not going to stop you from spilling the beans about your latest craft project. If you need help broaching the subject in an unsuspecting way just follow these tips.
10 Crafty Ways To Sneak Your Craft Projects Into The Conversation
1. Invite your friends over for brunch. Naturally you will leave your latest craft project out where it can be seen. Apologize for the mess and as you pretend to tidy up a bit take the opportunity to explain to them just what all the clutter is about.
2. Volunteer to bring decorations for the latest school function. This is classic as you won’t have to bring it up all. Someone is sure to comment on how great they are. BAM! That’s your in.
3. Get the kids involved. Headed out for a play date? Make sure to have the kiddos bring along your latest crafty project. If the moms don’t comment on it rest assured the other kids will.
4. Get Techy. Casually pull out your mobile device and mention you need to check your blog stats. Feign shocked disbelieve at just how popular your latest post (craft project) is. Your friend’s slightest glance to your device is your cue to clue them in.
5. When you’re out shopping with your gal pals ask if they mind stopping by the nearest craft store for “just a minute”. Now this is the tricky part. You are going to have to keep this stop under 30 minutes. 10 to 15 minutes is optimal. The goal here is not to start planning your next craft project but to get the conversation rolling on your current craft project.
6. Feign an injury. Not a serious injury mind you. This could be as simple as a pin prick or an incident with the hot glue gun. Doesn’t really matter as the injury is not real. Just make sure the bandage is real and prominently placed in a conspicuous area. “Oh, what happened?” I’m glad you asked!
7. Appear disheveled and or disoriented. Miss matched socks or skipping a button on your blouse may do the trick. When someone mentions the oversight to you explain how tired you were this morning from being up all night on your latest craft project.
8. Pretend that you have a secret. Start off by attempting to tell something then abruptly cut off the conversation. But be sure to end with “oh never mind I shouldn’t say” or “sorry I wasn’t supposed to tell anyone.” Something to that effect. This will surely pique their curiosity and have them begging you to clue them in. That’s when you hit them with a little crafting 101.
9. Invite your friends to a DIY party. Wow you just hit the mother load. Not only do you get to talk about your craft projects but you get to make fun projects with your friends. Win, win.
10. Ask what your friend is working on or currently has going. Listen intently, agree, smile, nod. When they are done surely they will ask “what about you?” if they don’t feel free to bring up your latest craft project.
